Nils Lofgren

Related Profiles

Along with "Little" Steven van Zandt, Nils Lofgren has flanked Bruce Springsteen in the E-Street Band since the early 1980s. Nils also played guitar and piano on Neil Young's "After The Goldrush" in 1970 at the age of 19. He contributed to the first Crazy Horse album in 1971 and also collaborated as a writer with Lou Reed on his "The Bells" album . Nils continues to play and tour as a solo artist between his commitments with the E-Street Band.

Aside from music, Nils is an athlete and sports is never far from his mind, even when he's on tour, his stage backflips are legendary (useless fact you should know: one Peterson staffer was on the stage crew setting up a trampoline for him on an early 1990s gig in Hamburg, Germany).

Nils plays a wide variety of instruments, "I’ve become the “swingman” in the band, by playing lap steel, pedal steel, Dobro and bottleneck guitar. With Bruce and Steven playing electric, and Patti (Scialfa, Bruce’s wife) and Soozie (Tyrell, violin and acoustic guitar) playing acoustic, we don’t always need five guitar players, so I started playing everything else. I have some beautiful Carter pedal steel guitars, and some terrific resonator guitars". Nils uses an AutoStrobe 490 on stage with the E-Street Band and is hyper-sensitive to tuning. Being also a steel guitarist, with all the tuning advantages that lap and pedal steel offer, the special features of Peterson tuners make them a natural choice.

AutoStrobe 490

$950.00 - $970.00

The Peterson AutoStrobe 490 is agreed by music students, technicians, and professionals to be the standard by which all tuners are measured. Only Peterson could bring you the kind of real- time intonation critical enough for ear training use. Enjoy hands-free note selection for fast, accurate tuning of instruments. Other companies may boast of their strobe tuner capabilities, but buyer beware! The AutoStrobe 490 is a truly stroboscopic mechanical tuner capable of fundamental and overtone display. Key features include mutable throughputs for in-line (yet silent) tuning during performances, automatic image clarity and contrast control which internally compensate for optimal viewing over a wide range of source pitch and volume, improved clarity for upper and lower register notes (our +2/-1 display feature shifts the strobe patterns into more visible middle ranges so that bass note patterns can be displayed two octaves higher and treble note patterns can be displayed one octave lower in strobe display), and easy transposition (strobe patterns appear at the correct note for Bb, F, and Eb instruments).
