Overview
The Peterson StroboPlus HD (SP-1) is THE premier desktop digital tuner on the market! Equally as comfortable on a tech’s workbench as it is in a player’s guitar case, this tuner, with all of its features, is no exception to Peterson’s reputation for being THE most accurate in the industry — don’t let its demure palm size fool you! Players of both acoustic and electric instruments can rest assured— a built-in electret condenser microphone and ¼” input jack provide excellent connectivity. Gone are the days of having to carry extra batteries and tripping over power cables during a performance! This tuner is rechargeable via computer bus or outlet power, and its large, circular screen is easily viewed in both the darkest and brightest environmental conditions.
Features such as Auto Off, easy menu navigation, tripod mounting capability, over 90 of our Sweetened Tunings, tone generation ability via built in speaker, and a headphone output jack round out the package. Finally, future-proof updating and parameter editing is made possible by the tuner’s unobtrusive side-mounted USB jack. And for those feeling exceptionally adventurous, this tuner can be upgraded to also feature our super flexible Body Beat metronome option, along with both audible AND tactile mode operation. Hear the beat or feel it…the power is in your hands. This tuner is fit for the most discerning of players and technicians for sure!

Back in the 1970's I had a Conn Strobotuner (ST-11 I think). I got it to help keep my Guild F-512 (a very BIG 12 string guitar) in tune. Tuning that guitar was a whole additional "hobby" that my life really didn't need. I see used Conn ST-11s listed on eBay for more than twice what a new Peterson Strobo Plus HD costs. I don't have the ST-1 or the Guild f-512 anymore. That's OK with me.
If I have any complaint it is that the metronome function is not included with the tuner. Come on guys - don't be so cheap! An accesory that costs 20% of the purchase price but cost you nothing feels just too greedy. It takes away from the "goodness" of your brand, which in the long run is not good for you.

The worst issue for me (as a piano tuner) is that this device, even with a great external mic connected, does not have a good 88-key range as it guaranteed. I really have to tune by ear for the last entire octave on the high and low ends without the mic, and it isn't much better with the one. The good news is that the entire mid range is a lot more accurate with the mic than without.
2nd issue: It has some issues tuning in a room with any other noise at all. I live in a house with a well pump, and while my piano is five times louder than the well pump, it gets severely distracted by it to the point that I can't tune with it. So I can't tune my piano without stopping for the well pump every 10-20 minutes. I have used a Yamaha strobe tuner that can keep focus in a room with someone stringing a piano, tuning, machines running, etc...
The other issue I have is not something that Peterson said it c ...

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I read a strobe display?
Adjust your instrument until the pattern is as close to still as possible. Strobe displays are 'real-time' and extremely high definition. They require very precise tuning adjustments to stop the display because the frequency/pitch of any instrument is never totally stable.
You'll quickly learn to read the display, make the most precise adjustments and appreciate the high resolution that only a Peterson provides.

Chrome needs access to /dev/hidraw*, so either set "chmod a+rw /dev/hidraw*" or start chrome as root with the --no-sandbox option
*Some Ubuntu based distros do not allow running Chrome as root with the --no-sandbox option enabled. -Running as root without --no-sandbox is not supported. See https://crbug.com/638180. You can however run Chromium as a normal user and invoke that option.
Some users have reprted a fix by adding a new udev rule as follows: KERNEL=="hidraw*", SUBSYSTEM=="hidraw", MODE="0664", GROUP="plugdev", ATTRS{idVendor}=="2368", ATTRS{idProduct}=="*SEE BELOW"
* Some Peterson products operate in two different modes with individual product id's for firmware update operations. Multiple rules may need to be created. Here is the list of Peterson USB product ID's
