Peterson Tuners: StroboClip Clip-On Strobe Tuner (Official)
Bob Minner discusses Bluegrass Tuning and the Peterson StroboClip
Randy Kohrs talks about tuning with his Peterson StroboClip- Peterson Strobe Tuners

The Peterson StroboClip™ (SC-1) has the same tenth-of-a-cent accuracy as its big brother models. This versatile tuner comes complete with a bright high-definition screen, 28 Sweetened™ tunings, alternate temperaments for a vast array of string and wind instruments, a stainless steel chassis to withstand life on the road, a carbon-fiber hinge/stem/clip construction to ensure you a worry-free performance, a metal carrying case for safekeeping, and soft rubber-lined jaws to protect your instrument's finish while offering a firm grip for maximum signal tracking.

Also, our exclusive “Sustain Mode” feature allows longer note-on-screen viewing time when tuning short-voiced instruments. The note is captured and displayed on screen until the next time a note is sounded—perfect for instruments like banjo and other similar instruments that have percussive, brief, and transient sound signatures!

PROVEN TUNING TECHNOLOGY

The legendary ease and precision of a spinning wheel strobe tuner can be employed with the StroboClip™.

UNMATCHED ACCURACY

All Peterson products provide guaranteed tuning results to within +/-0.1 cent. That is 1/1000th of a fret!

Tuning with the StroboClip™. allows your instrument to sound its best and helps ensure its tuning stays true during playing.

This level of accuracy is the highest in the industry and what has made Peterson the choice of professionals around the globe for over 65 years.

SOLID DESIGN | Peterson Strobe Tuners

SOLID DESIGN

The StroboClip is encased in a stainless-steel shell to help it withstand the rigors of the road. Carbon-fiber construction of the hinge, stem, and clip help ensure a long and worry-free product life.

SWEETENED TUNINGS STANDARD | Peterson Strobe Tuners

SWEETENED TUNINGS STANDARD

Sweetened Tunings are optimized offsets that when applied to a particular instrument help combat the bland tone equal temperament tuning provides.

The StroboClip features presets for a variety of acoustic instruments most notably banjo, Dobro, mandolin, electric/acoustic guitar, bass and many more!

Support for Buzz Feiten equipped instruments is also included.

INNOVATIVE SUSTAIN MODE | Peterson Strobe Tuners

INNOVATIVE SUSTAIN MODE

The SUS (SUStained tuning mode) is an exclusive feature of the StroboClip.

Switching the StroboClip from NOR(mal) mode to SUS(tained) mode will hold the display of your tuning image for approximately 3 seconds.

The SUStain mode is particularly useful for instruments which have a very short voice or a quick decay such as banjo or mandolin.

Love it - use it to tune guitar and cello. A little hard to see display, but I got used to it. Bought about 11 years ago and still works perfectly.

Peterson could not have done more! I bought a Stroboclip 3 years ago and the clip developed a hairline crack at the mount. Because I couldn't tighten the screen, the tuner didn't work as well as before. I didn't want to trash it because it is the best tuner I have ever had, so I explained the situation to Peterson in a support ticket. That model had been discontinued (no surprise) and there were no more spare parts so you'd expect the story to end there. No - Peterson modified a clip mount from their new range and shipped it to me here in Australia free of charge. How good is that? It is when things go wrong that you find out what a company is truly made of and I feel that, whatever happens, Peterson will be doing their very best for me. Thank you for your excellent service - you guys rock!!

Tuner has worked flawlessly. The clip was broken by a percussionist moving drums while the tuner was clipped to the bridge of my double-bass. Although the tuner has been discontinued Peterson modified a clip from a current model and sent to me. That is customer service to highest degree I have used Peterson Strobe tuners since I was in high school and will continue to do so.

Your technical support is much appreciated. My HS Band used the Peterson box in 1966. My rock band used Peterson in 1971. I used that Peterson to tune pianos in the 90s. It was natural for me to use on my 1950 Kay 5-string upright bass when I started playing bluegrass a few years ago. I believe it's the most accurate on the market and folks are marveled at the spinning action. Thanks

Great little product, the strobe animation really help you dial in the perfect tuning and having noticed after several years that the clip had lost one of the pads (no chance of finding that after tidying up during a house move) their after sales really nicely sent me a complimentary clip from their newer tuner that they modified to fit my old tuner. Customer service levels like this are really rare and so much appreciated.

Okay, this is less of a review of the Stroboclip and more of a review of Peterson's amazing customer service. Well, okay, I'll start by saying that the Stroboclip is awesome! I love it and you should purchase a Stroboclip HD. It's worth every penny. Anyway, back to customer service:

I recently lost a small piece off of my Stroboclip - it still worked just as well without the piece, but I was hopeful that they could replace it. I contacted Peterson's customer service, and they told me that my Stroboclip was no longer being made. Bummer. At this point I would be out of luck with most companies, but these guys sent me a modified piece for a Stroboclip HD that worked perfectly with my tuner! Not only that, but they sent it free of charge, all the way to California from Ireland.

Thank you!

I already own the Peterson StroboPlusHD and know its accuracy and like its sweetened settings. I needed another tuner so naturally I selected the Peterson StroboClipHD. It took me no time at all to set it up and benefit from its ease of use and accuracy. I am very pleased with it and plan to purchase another one to give as a present.

I bought my StroboClip back in 2012 after I saw one a video of Jake Shimabukuro using one on his ukulele. I looked into it and was drawn to the idea of having a tuner that was more accurate as I hate having out of tune instruments and don’t mind spending the time to dial things in as closely as possible. I immediately purchased one and it delivered exactly as I was hoping for. My ukulele is a 1960’s Martin with friction tuners so tuning accuracy isn’t always the easiest to attain. After using the StroboClip, I was hearing an ukulele more in tune than I have ever had before. I know it may sound like a bunch of bull but the sound of the open 4 ukulele strings when very in tune was very noticeable. The comparable tuners at the time I had were an older Korg tuner and a free guitar tuning app on my cell phone. I liked it so much I purchased another for my dad.

Fast forward to 2021 and it’s still going strong. I recently got a new acoustic guitar and one thing I did notice was that compared ...

Like several other commenters, the clip on my Strobo Clip broke after several years of daily use. Just received a modified clip from Peterson thanks to John Norris. Now my old tuner is up and running like the day I bought it. This tuner has been by far the best tuner I've ever had. It's more accurate and the sweetened tunings make a difference I can hear. I see now they have a new model that is probably even better.

How do I read a strobe display?

Basically, the strobe image appears to travel to the left if your instrument is flat of the desired pitch and to the right if it is sharp. On earlier models such as the StroboStomp 1, StroboStomp 2, VS-1, VS-II and V-SAM, the strobe image travels upward if your instrument is sharp and downward if your instrument is flat of the desired pitch.

Adjust your instrument until the pattern is as close to still as possible. Strobe displays are 'real-time' and extremely high definition. They require very precise tuning adjustments to stop the display because the frequency/pitch of any instrument is never totally stable.

You'll quickly learn to read the display, make the most precise adjustments and appreciate the high resolution that only a Peterson provides.

Is the accuracy the same for all Peterson tuners?

Yes, the accuracy is within 0.1 cents (1/1000 of one semitone) as with all Peterson Strobe Tuners. An important thing to note is that Peterson Strobe Tuners have ultra high definition displays, so not only are they highly accurate in detecting a note but they have the ability to display that accuracy. Other products claim accuracy but do not have the high definition screen to display the level of accuracy in which they claim. If you cannot see the accuracy, it is of little value. Only Peterson provides High Definition Strobe Tuning.

What is my StroboClip’s Sweetened Tunings feature all about?

A Sweetener is a set of cent offsets or a deviation from generic Equal Temperament interval spacing traditionally used in tuning. Tuners made by Peterson, including the StroboClip, contain many choices of “Sweetness“, in other words, several presets with differing interval spacing relevant to the instrument being tuned. If you’ve never been happy with how your instrument tunes up with your present tuner, a Sweetener could be just the thing to change that without any modifications whatsoever. The StroboClip offers 29 unique and very accurate “tweaks” which often make all the difference, try it!

Does my tuner require calibration?

Generally, your tuner will not require calibration and should remain perfectly accurate if it has not been damaged.

Unlike more modern Peterson strobes, legacy models such as the Peterson 400, 420, 450 and 700 do require occasional calibration.

If you require service, please open a support ticket and return the tuner for repair.
