This is, without question, the best electronic tuner I have had since I bought my first electronic tuner back in the late 70s/early 80s. I started with a pitch pipe in 1965. That satisfied me about 2 weeks. I moved to a tuning fork and stuck with that for a several years. When I had the option of getting an electronic tuner (a needle version...was it the first version of Korg's line?), I jumped on board, wore out or broke that first one and then settled into the Boss TU series for the next nearly 40 years (mostly so I could have the analog needle). I have always preferred either the actual Peterson 400 tuners from Peterson (like my piano tuning friends had, but that I could never afford my own) or an electronic tuner with a VU-style analog needle meter (like the old Boss TU series). The modern LED or LCD styles jus didn't hack it. Then I tried the Strob-O-Stomp HD that blended the highly visible motion of the original analog Strobe tuners with smaller size and pedal form factor and I was immediately hooked. (Being able to customize the screen color is very nice touch, too!)

It is sooo easy to tune to the "exact" pitch (which is a myth on a guitar) like a regular electronic tuner, but just as easy to sweeten the tuning without having to have the eyes of a hawk to see how far above or below the pitch you are for, say, lowering that B string just enough to compensate for the foibles of equal temperament on a fretted instrument. That Peterson has already included a large number of sweetened tunings and specialty tunings saved me a gob of time and I use several frequently.

The unit is built like a bomb-proof tank! I have no fear of dropping it or accidentally stepping on it in the wrong place. It serves me on my repair bench, too, and makes doing tuning and intonation work on instruments much faster and more accurate and precise than with the tuner I had been using for years.

Having the choice of buffering--or not-- was a nice touch. On my board with a long signal path, the buffer at the front of the chain does nicely help the overall signal. On my older board that I like to start off with my 1970s fuzz unit (for several reasons that older players will understand), I have to reconfigure for everything to play nice together. The Strob-O-Stomp gives me the option...and I truly appreciate that option.

My only quibble with the unit is the somewhat non-intuitive menu navigation system using the two toggling switches on the sides. Unless you use them all the time or frequently, it is very easy to mis-remember which you need to push (and which direction up or down) to do a menu or feature change. When you make a mistake, recovering is not as easy as reversing th switch direction and back ing out of the mistake...
But that's my brain wiring problem. I would guess there are others who find it perfectly logical and who also remember such things forever after only doing it once. Good on them, but that's not me, so I'd have appreciated more guidance on that big beautiful display screen when I touched one of the side buttons.

A second quibble might be that I wonder just how difficult it would be to add a tiny microphone in the box so it can be used as a standalone acoustic tuner without having to carry along a mic or add a plug-in clip-on sensor?

In spite of my minor quibbles, I am a very satisfied customer of this product. It is well-designed, works like a champ, and will provide me with years of service.
