Plays Classical Violin
The StroboPLUS HD is a dream come true for the violinist!
The StroboPLUS HD tuner is so valuable for young violinists and for professionals, that The Romantic School of Music has already started production of a completely unsolicited video lesson featuring it.
Yes, it's great for so many instruments, but for those not familiar with the "sweetened" tuning mode; IT IS SO WORTH IT, and it makes Peterson the only portable tuner that can tune a violin to the proper accuracy in perfect 5ths. Others claim it, but this one actually does it. It's also a MUST for anyone learning to play the violin, as well as other an un-fretted instruments.
This tuner is fast, and accurate enough in automatic detection mode that it can be placed on a music stand and used to critique every single note, on the fly, while playing scales and arpeggios, even while using vibrato: including most notes while practicing a concerto at full speed! I don't know if Peterson had this in mind when designing this tuner, but for a violinist they have succeeded magnificently! And this is coming from someone who usually tears new products apart; especially electronic ones.
In looking over the negative reviews, some of the items are true, but they can't take away from my 5 star rating:
Yes, when you're at a gig, it's a little too easy to bump the large dial and change the display, yet it will still keep tuning at the same time, and the full display comes right back in less than 2 seconds.
Yes, the non-slip soft plastic used for the buttons, while very nice, can accumulate sweat and dirt a little quicker than other plastics. (Just like my car's steering wheel.) Yet, most violinists don't eat and drink beer while practicing and performing.
Yes, the metronome feature has to be added, at an additional cost over the internet, but with Google Chrome it was quick and easy. (They offer discounts on other items at the same time.)
And while this tuner is the ultimate in the studio, and every musician should have one, I also purchased the StroboClip Hd because it will fit in any violin case and is actually better for tuning an acoustic violin in a noisy environment. You can see if you are playing in tune, even if you can't hear your instrument. (Like a guitarist who uses this tuner with an audio jack.)
I could go on and on on about how great the StroboPLUS HD really is and how much better this type of display is than any other, but I have a video to make. Bravo Peterson!
