Since 1948, Peterson Strobe Tuners have defined the standard in tuning accuracy. The StroboPLUS HDC encompasses decades of tuning authority and technology to deliver the ultimate strobe tuner/metronome combo!

The StroboPLUS HDC’s 0.1 cent tuning accuracy will tune any instrument with the utmost precision. Featuring a high-definition, multi-color display with variable color LED backlight, the StroboPLUS HDC display can be seen easily across the stage, bench, studio or classroom. Over 200 exclusive Sweetened Tunings® and Guided Tunings on-board accommodate a variety of instruments, temperaments, and musical genres.

The highly configurable metronome features precise 0.1 BPM adjustability in eighth notes, quarter notes, dotted quarter notes or half notes, a tempo range of 10-280 BPM, over 100 subdivisions, accent patterns, and polyrhythms. The StroboPLUS HDC can also be used to play thousands of bars of tempo maps, programmable from the Peterson Connect Web App. A single tempo map can play an entire score of meter changes, accent patterns, subdivisions, bar colors, silent bars and gradually curved tempo changes like accelerandos and ritardandos. The StroboPLUS HDC is the perfect tuning, ear training and rhythm tool all in one package!

All Peterson products provide guaranteed tuning results to within +/-0.1 cent (1/1000th of a fret or semitone).

The StroboPLUS HDC employs Peterson's proprietary Strobo Tuning Technology to tune your instrument to an ultra-high degree of accuracy.

This level of accuracy is an industry benchmark and what has made Peterson the choice of professionals around the globe for over 70 years.

REAL-TIME TUNING RESPONSE

The StroboPLUS HDC's Virtual Strobe display is DIRECTLY driven by the input signal. That means you'll see the attack, sustain, and the decay of the note being tuned - all in real-time.

Its speed of movement is in direct correlation to the distance from the target pitch and the display doesn't exhibit the often found jerky motion found in needle or LED-based tuners.

You can literally watch the strobe bands settle as you pull that note into the target pitch!

METRONOME INCLUDED

The StroboPLUS HDC includes the most innovative and versatile metronome as a standard feature.

Hundreds of subdivision combinations, accent patterns, polyrhythms, and user-imagined tempo maps are at your disposal.

Tactile feedback is also available with the use of an optional BodyBeat Vibe Clip.

The StroboPLUS HDC comes with over 180 factory preset Sweetened Tunings that cover a wide variety of electric and acoustic instruments. Sweetened Tunings address the specific inharmonicities of the selected instruments to optimize their tuning.

Also included standard are a collection of guided tunings that include popular drop, alternate, artist-specific, and standard string number tunings.

Native compatibility with Peterson Connect allows users to configure and update their StroboPLUS HDC for a personal tuning experience.

PETERSON CONNECT ENABLED

The Peterson Connect application for Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge (Windows/OS X) and Chromium browsers provides a simple method to configure and customize your StroboPLUS HDC. Create your own sweeteners, navigate the user tuning trading post, or arrange preset tunings before the gig.

Tempo Maps can also be loaded to the StroboPLUS HDC via Peterson Connect for practicing musical scores - complete with tempo changes!

I'm loving this strobe tuner! I took guitar lessons when I was 12-14 years old, and only played guitar a few times since then.I retired two years ago at 62, decided to start playing again, and bought a new acoustic guitar. I gifted myself a new Squier Strat this last Christmas, not realizing it would need to be set-up. I couldn't get the intonation right. My old ears could tell it didn't sound right but I couldn't seem to get the intonation right. My local shop charges $85 for a guitar set-up. I now have 3 electric guitars and figured I could come out ahead by getting my own tuner. It works great and I have all my guitars sounding awesome. I really like the large display. It was a nice surprise to see the little screw hole on the back. I mounted a screw in ram mount ball to the back and bought a mount from Amazon for my mic stand and I can have the tuner right at hand.

Does my StroboPLUS HDC require calibration?

Generally, your StroboPLUS HDC will not require calibration and should remain perfectly accurate if it has not been damaged.

Unlike more modern Peterson strobes, legacy models such as the Peterson 400, 420, 450 and 700 do require occasional calibration.

If you require service, please open a support ticket and return the tuner for repair.

How do I read a strobe display?

Basically, the strobe image appears to travel to the left if your instrument is flat of the desired pitch and to the right if it is sharp. On earlier models such as the StroboStomp 1, StroboStomp 2, VS-1, VS-II and V-SAM, the strobe image travels upward if your instrument is sharp and downward if your instrument is flat of the desired pitch.

Adjust your instrument until the pattern is as close to still as possible. Strobe displays are 'real-time' and extremely precise. They require very fine tuning adjustments to stop the display because the frequency/pitch of any instrument is never totally stable.

You'll quickly learn to read the display, make the most precise adjustments and appreciate the high resolution that only a Peterson provides.

Is the accuracy the same for all Peterson tuners?

Yes, the accuracy is within 0.1 cents (1/1000 of one semitone) as with all Peterson Strobe Tuners. An important thing to note is that Peterson Strobe Tuners have ultra high definition displays, so not only are they highly accurate in detecting a note but they have the ability to display that accuracy. Other products claim accuracy but do not have the high definition screen to display the level of accuracy in which they claim. If you cannot see the accuracy, it is of little value. Only Peterson provides High Definition Strobe Tuning.

Peterson Connect does not detect my StroboPLUS HDC in Linux environment.

Chrome needs access to /dev/hidraw*, so either set "chmod a+rw /dev/hidraw*" or start chrome as root with the --no-sandbox option

*Some Ubuntu based distros do not allow running Chrome as root with the --no-sandbox option enabled. -Running as root without --no-sandbox is not supported. See https://crbug.com/638180. You can however run Chromium as a normal user and invoke that option.

Some users have reprted a fix by adding a new udev rule as follows: KERNEL=="hidraw*", SUBSYSTEM=="hidraw", MODE="0664", GROUP="plugdev", ATTRS{idVendor}=="2368", ATTRS{idProduct}=="*SEE BELOW"

* Some Peterson products operate in two different modes with individual product id's for firmware update operations. Multiple rules may need to be created. Here is the list of Peterson USB product ID's

If there is trouble connecting or reconnecting as a product is switching modes, ex: StroboPLUS HDC product id 0006 to StroboPLUS HDC Firmware Mode 8006 run the command:

"sudo chmod a+rw /dev/hidraw*"

This command will solve any "waiting on user input" or if the update button in Peterson Connect is unresponsive. The command may need to be executed more than once.

What is my StroboPLUS HDC’s Sweetened Tunings feature all about?

A Sweetener is a set of cent offsets or a deviation from generic Equal Temperament interval spacing traditionally used in tuning. Tuners made by Peterson, including the StroboPLUS HDC, contain many choices of Sweeteners, in other words, several presets with differing interval spacing relevant to the instrument being tuned. If you’ve never been happy with how your instrument tunes up with your present tuner, a Sweetener could be just the thing to change that without any modifications whatsoever. The StroboPLUS HDC offers 219 unique and very accurate tweaks which often make all the difference.
