Peterson tuners feature unique Sweetener™ presets not found in any other brand of tuner. This comes from an almost 70 year-old legacy reaching back to the dawn of popular music as we know it today.
Decades of research and the experience of musicians the world over has led to the creation of the “Sweetener”, a system of preset tuning offsets specifically designed for specific instruments, only available on Peterson tuners, and used worldwide wherever precise and professional results are expected.
Maqam (Arabic مقام) or Makam (Persian), very loosely translated. means “temperament” (Maqamat is the plural). Many of these temperaments exist since their first documented appearance in the 14th century and have been passed down from generation to generation. Peterson Electro-Musical Products is pleased to be the first to feature Maqamat in electronic tuners. Three Maqam presets are included in the current Peterson StroboClip and StroboPlus models (Maqam Rast, Maqam Nairuz and Maqam Suznak). When used to tune instruments such as violin, buzuq, oud, etc. in conjunction with other fixed pitch instruments, care should be taken to adjust the global A reference accordingly.
For Maqam Rast, use the RAS Sweetener™ preset.
For Maqam Suznak, use the SUZ Sweetener preset.
For Maqam Nairuz, use the NAI Sweetener preset.
Current Peterson tuners featuring the RAS, SUZ & NAI Sweetener settings described above include:
