Peterson tuners feature unique Sweetener™ presets not found in any other brand of tuner. This comes from an almost 70-year legacy that reaches back to the dawn of popular music as we know it today.
Decades of research and the experience of musicians the world over has led to the creation of the “Sweetener”, a system of preset tuning offsets designed for specific instruments, only available on Peterson tuners, and used worldwide wherever precise and professional results are expected.
Sitar is an instrument which is traditionally tuned to natural intervals, which is not possible using standard Equal temperament as used in the majority of tuners.
The Peterson SIT Sweetener is preset to show the naturally consonant intervals as tuned on a sitar. The default root (SA) is C, but by changing the Drop/Capo value on the tuner to +1, a C# root can be set. The Concert Pitch may vary depending on the source of style of the music played (Carnatic or Hindustani). Each model of Peterson tuner has a wide adjustment range to allow for almost any variation.
For sitar, use the SIT Sweetener™ preset. To change the root (the pitch of the SA), change the Drop/Capo or Trans value accordingly. For example, the default of the SIT Sweetener is C, so for C#, change the Drop/Capo or Trans value to +1.
Current Peterson tuners featuring the SIT Sweetener setting described above include:
