The Peterson VSS-C StroboStomp Classic Tuner is the most fully-featured pedal tuner made by anyone to date. A high-contrast LCD screen makes this tuner the perfect choice for both indoor and outdoor use as well as for anywhere that lighting conditions are less than ideal. Integrated, fold out, steel mounting lugs at the unit’s bottom rubberized plate keep it in place on your pedal board without unsightly tape or messy adhesives. Its ultra-robust die-cast chassis and Switchcraft brand input/output jacks assure a quality tuning even after the roughest of voyages. Also, its unique quick- release battery-access door steers you far away from having to deal with delicate, easily broken, battery lead wires. Battery changes are a breeze!

The professional-quality active DI on board is mutable and lets you select one of three stages of signal attenuation—all while remaining 100% true bypass. Finally, the tuner’s side mounted USB jack makes your unit future-proof and custom tailored to be exactly what you need it to be by allowing Mac or PC connectivity for updates and unit user programming/modifications.

Tuning with the Stomp Classic™ allows your instrument to sound its best and helps ensure its tuning stays true during playing.

This level of accuracy is the highest in the industry and what has made Peterson the choice of professionals around the globe for over 65 years.

Default

EQU
Standard tuning temperament suitable for regular or alternate tuning, 100 cent intervals - no Sweetening.

Guitar & Bass

GTR
Designed for use with guitars tuned to standard EADGBE. The strings are adjusted to allow for deflection by varying amounts according to the gauge of the string in each case. This improves and helps counter the often problematic “unwound 3rd string” problem on short scale electric guitars such as Les Pauls and the three saddle compromise on Telecasters.
ACU
Designed for use with acoustic guitars tuned to standard EADGBE. The strings are adjusted to allow for deflection by varying amounts according to the gauge of the string in each case. The guitar is sweetened in the same way as if tuned by the ear of an experienced musician such as James Taylor who uses these settings.
DAD
Peterson Sweetened tuning for acoustic guitar in modal DADGAD tuning with optimized fifths.
G12
Peterson Sweetened tuning for 12 string guitars with regard to the string courses.
BRT
Peterson Sweetened tuning for baritone guitars.
7ST
Peterson Sweetened tuning for seven string guitars.
BAS
Designed for use with basses tuned to standard EADG. The strings are adjusted to allow for deflection by varying amounts according to the gauge of the string in each case.
BSn
Displays string numbers instead of note names for 4 and 5 & 6 string bass guitars ( 543210 instead of BEADGC ).
GTn
Displays string numbers instead of note names for 6 & 7 string guitars (7654321 instead of BEADGBE).

BF12
Tuning offsets for 12 string guitars equipped with the Buzz Feiten Tuning System*. (Buzz Feiten Tuning System is a registered trademark of Buzz Feiten Design).

Steel Guitar

SE9
Peterson Pedal Steel Guitar Sweetened Tuning for 10 string pedal steel in E9 tuning. This is based on Jeff Newman's later system where the E strings are sharp of concert pitch.
SC6
Peterson Pedal Steel Guitar Sweetened Tuning for 10 string pedal steel in C6 tuning. This is based on Jeff Newman's system (www.jeffran.com)
OE9
Peterson Pedal Steel Guitar Sweetened Tuning for 10 String pedal steel in E9 tuning. This is based on Jeff Newman's earlier system where the E strings are at concert pitch.
U12
Peterson Pedal Steel Guitar Sweetened Tuning for 12 string universal pedal steel guitar in E9/B6 tuning. This contains the offsets for the open strings based on Jeff Newman's system.
LA6
A6 settings for lap steel guitar.
LC6
C6 settings for lap steel guitar.

Bluegrass

dbO
Compensates by making the thirds pure. This makes the sweetest sound, especially with long sustained chords where not using a Sweetener can grate on the ears due to an Equally Tempered third.
dbH
Major thirds in all three tunings are lowered slightly from Equal temperament, but not entirely beatless. This Sweetener is useful in band settings where instruments with fixed intonation are present.
BJO
Counters the typical sharp B string which is encountered when tuning a 5-string banjo without compensation with an ordinary tuner. The B is sweetened in the same way as a banjo tuned by the ear of an experienced musician.
MAN
This sweetener was developed for the mandolin, mandola and mandocello. Using it will result in perfectly tuned and voiced unison string pairs. Detuning in instruments with multiple string courses, as opposed to single strings, is much less pleasing to even the most untrained ear because both chords and melody lines are affected. The MAN setting can be used for 8-string mandolins, including Gibson Styles A and F as well as the Weber A and F series.

Orchestral

VLN
Open strings tuned in perfect fifth intervals. Both four (GDAE) and five string (CGDAE) violins are catered for within this one tuning preset.

STUDIO QUALITY ACTIVE DI | Peterson Strobe Tuners

STUDIO QUALITY ACTIVE DI

High-impedance signals get balanced and matched with ultra-transparency, extreme detail and sparkle. Perfect for use with acoustic or bass guitars, electric pianos and synthesizers. Fully mute-able for private tuning at the gig between songs.

Three step attenuation pad reduces the incoming signal level from loud sources that could overload the circuit and cause distortion. Selectable ground lift reduces noise and helps prevent ground loop hum in your rig.

High-quality Neutrik® XLR jack for optimum reliability and roll cage bar to protect your XLR cable on stage from accidents.

Peterson Connect on Windows 10 will not detect my tuner. Displays error message.

Windows 10 ( or a recent Windows 10 update ) assumes which USB driver is best for your StroboPLUSHD when you first connect your tuner to your computer. However, in order for Google Chrome to have access to your device on Windows 10, the StroboPLUS HD must use a common "generic" USB driver. There is a simple utility available to force Windows to use this generic USB driver when you connect your StrooPLUS to your computer. This utility runs from an executable and does not require installation, so there will be nothing additional installed on your system. After launching this utility, specifying which driver you'd like Windows to use with your StroboPLUS and then restarting, you will then always be able to reconnect your StroboPLUS without any issues. You may then delete the utility.

Before you begin this process, be sure that your situation meets the following criteria:

  • You are attempting to connect your Peterson tuner to the Peterson website and you are using the Google Chrome Browser
  • You have already installed the Peterson Connect plug-in for the Google Chrome Browser
  • You are receiving a message about Windows 10 needing additional action in order to connect.

If the symptoms above describe your situation, follow these steps:

  1. Download the "Zadig" utility from the link here and save it to your desktop: http://www.petersontuners.com/downloads/zadig_2.2.exe
  2. Connect your StroboPLUS HD to your computer's USB port if not already connected.
  3. From your desktop, double-click the zadig_2.2..exe file.
  4. Windows may ask you if you would like to allow this app to make changes to your device. Click Yes.
  5. You will see a small window like the one pictured here.
  6. Click "Options" and then "List All Devices"
  7. Using the very first drop-down box, select StroboPlusHD ( Interface 0 )
  8. There are two boxes next to the label "Driver". The box on the left is the current driver being used for your StroboPLUS and the box on the right is the driver you'd like to change it to. Use the arrows next to the box on the right to select the libusbK (v3.0.7.0) driver.
  9. Click the button that says "Replace Driver"
  10. After the driver has been installed, you can close this utility and, if you wish, delete it from your desktop.
  11. Restart your system and your StroboPLUS HD will connect to our website in Google Chrome without any issues.

Does Peterson Connect only work with the Google Chrome Browser?

No, but it works better with Google Chrome!

Before June of 2015, Peterson Connect required the download and installation of a separate piece of software in order for your products to communicate with the Peterson website. This software existed for both Mac OS X and Windows. Recently, the Google Chrome browser has offered developers new tools to make tasks like these much easier for the user. Converting Peterson Connect from a stand-alone application to an app for Google Chrome greatly simplifies the Peterson Connect installation and user experience for the majority of our customers.

Those who prefer a different browser can design sweeteners and presets in any browser. Only the data transfer to your tuner relies on Google Chrome ( as opposed to downloading and installing a stand-alone application ). All of the other functions of the Peterson website will work in any browser. However, using Google Chrome to configure your tuner provides a quick and seamless link between programming and transferring data to your device. Chrome acts as the USB Driver for your tuner. - a USB driver that also happens to be a very useful browser in many respects. In the future as technology allows, this is planned to work the same for all browsers.

If you'd like to use the legacy desktop version, download and install the ZIP file for Windows or the DMG file for Mac.

I've registered my StroboPLUS HD or Stomp Classic but the website will not allow me to configure or update my device.

In order for the website to be able to program your device over the USB connection, it first has to "register" the internal ID, so it can perform the USB communication.

Although you may have registered your warranty and serial number, until the site gets a read on your connected device for the first time, it cannot pair that physical device to your warranty registration and serial number and therefore will not allow it to be programmed. This is called 'pairing'.

Be sure to be logged in to the same account in which you registered your warranty. If using Peterson Connect for Google Chrome, you will be asked to 'pair'

Is the accuracy the same for all Peterson tuners?

Yes, the accuracy is within 0.1 cents (1/1000 of one semitone) as with all Peterson Strobe Tuners. An important thing to note is that Peterson Strobe Tuners have ultra high definition displays, so not only are they highly accurate in detecting a note but they have the ability to display that accuracy. Other products claim accuracy but do not have the high definition screen to display the level of accuracy in which they claim. If you cannot see the accuracy, it is of little value. Only Peterson provides High Definition Strobe Tuning.

How do I read a strobe display?

Basically, the strobe image appears to travel to the left if your instrument is flat of the desired pitch and to the right if it is sharp. On earlier models such as the StroboStomp 1, StroboStomp 2, VS-1, VS-II and V-SAM, the strobe image travels upward if your instrument is sharp and downward if your instrument is flat of the desired pitch.

Adjust your instrument until the pattern is as close to still as possible. Strobe displays are 'real-time' and extremely high definition. They require very precise tuning adjustments to stop the display because the frequency/pitch of any instrument is never totally stable.

You'll quickly learn to read the display, make the most precise adjustments and appreciate the high resolution that only a Peterson provides.
