Hi,
I posted that review on A Strings. I've been using my Stroboflip for quite a while now and still stand by the review - couldn't be happier with it. Andy. |

I’ve been using the Stroboflip for about a week now in the studio. It is time to give the VS-1 a break. I really like how the Stroboflip display is so easy to read. I also like the fact that the microphone seems to pick up sound much better than on the VS-1. It’s nice to be able to toss it in a guitar case at the end of the day. Thanks for another great product!

Hi Frank,
(Converted Post) First, it is very difficult to tell if I'm sharp or flat because the strobe flickers wildly so I can't tell if it's moving up or down. Changing the force used to pick the string and the location on the string sometimes helps but it's not reliable.
Thats a common complaint by beginning users of strobe tuners, the problem is that you're used to a much less sensitive and accurate tuner, please search around this forum, you'll find tips to make your tuning easier. Our own classical guitar here at the factory is an old hand-made Fleta, the included TP-2 pickup works like a charm on it's headstock. My advice to you is to take your time, you've only had the StroboFlip for a day so far...play with it. Instead of looking for factory presets, listen to the difference between the Sweeteners, contemplate the tuning that you would like to apply to this particular guitar, and program it into the StroboFlip. (Converted Post) Lastly, I'm really dissapointed in the lack of sweeteners for classical guitar. This is one main reason I bought it, but now I find it only has steel string sweeteners.
??? Where did you "find" that? Who said the ACOUST setting is for steel strung guitar only? Guitarists have to realise that "sweetening" is about individual tones seen as a group, not about whether the guitar has a Cedar top or an Engelmann spruce top, nylon or steel strings etc. We are the only providers of "Sweeteners", no other tuner manufacturer has such a feature. If you're dissatisfied with the StroboFlip, you can always return it for a refund, but the question remains, what do you replace it with ?

John N. Yes I am new to strobe tuners and I'm getting a little better but I just wish you had a (steady) sharp/flat indicator to help out. When it flickers that widly I still need to check it against another string to see which way I should go. I'll look around the forum for help. As far as the sweeteners go, I was going to quote the manual page 12, but when I started to type it in, I realized you have two columns listed instead of one. I was looking in the right-hand column to see the type of sweetener and they all said steel string. Now I see the others on the left side. I've removed my other post as to not give others a wrong impression. Frank |

Hi Frank,
Pease don't remove your earlier post, we really don't care whether its positive or negative, the main thing is that people can understand what's happening on this forum. We value you as a Peterson user, you are a guitarist with a real sense of pitch, lets hope the rest will follow !

So I got the Strobo-Flip. I read all of the forum stuff. ( I wanted to wait for the Strobo Rack but I paniced at the cost.) I got it home and tried to use it on my acoustic guitar and a strumming stick, and got KILLED. Meter fliping (pun intended) and rolling, I could not stop the spinning with a nail.
Then I tried my electric guitars. What a difference for a newbe. It worked like a champ. I plucked with my thumb, volume rolled back, let the string ring longer than i would with my other tuners and was able to get the bars to stop dead. I learned that the quality of the machine heads makes a difference also. I have some grover locking mini's and schaller locking tuners on the electrics. Then with some confidence i went back to the internal mic and the extenal mic with better results. I think the less than stellar machine heads were causing some of my problems. (Still harder but I feel it will get better.) With the electric though I was playing with just GTR and default and loving that i could hear the difference. It made playing through the b@ss GT8 very fun. All of the heavy distortion sounds 10x better with the guitar tuned properly. So anyway, I thank you and I look forward to learning how to use my ears, and have a tool to check them. thanks |

Initial review of the product.
This is my first experience with a strobe tuner and I find it very accurate as promised. I play a custom 21 chord Orthey chromatic autoharp (http://www.ortheyinstruments.com) which is equipped with a fine tuner for each of the 37 strings. I was able to get my harp in tune in a very short amount of time and the tuner picked up the lowest strings with ease which used to be a real pain in the neck to tune. There is a learning curve to using the StroboFlip. It's not always obvious which way the display is moving and I often had to resort to manual note selection over the automatic setting and adjust the cents down to stabilize the display to a point that made sense to me. I am confident that this will get better as I become more accustomed to tuning with this style of tuner. The unit is well built, compact, light and travels with ease. I compared tuning with my previous Intelli IMT-500 clip-on tuner and found that when I was dead on with the Intelli, I was still slightly out of tune +/-3 to 7 cents on the StroboFlib. After my initial tuning in equal temperament, I went back through my harp by ear to slightly sharpen the highest notes on the harp and slightly flatten the bass notes. The autoharp should be tuned with a slight "stretch" to make it sound as sweet as possible. I wish there was a "sweet" temperament already programmed for the autoharp since it seems very tedious to create and store one with the 12 note limit. Are any of the tunings stored considered "stretch" tunings in the Stroboflib? I do plan to experiment with some of the other temperaments to see how they sound on my instrument but I am curious if you have a recommendation as to which temperament would suit an autoharp of the ones already programmed? My complaints are few concerning the tuner. I do not like the feel of the buttons. There are times the buttons will stick in the down position if pressed at an angle and sometimes I press with equal force and the button does not register my press. I wish they were slightly more responsive to the touch than they are. I am also very disappointed that the tuner does not allow accent lighting on batteries. A simple button to turn the lighting on/off to quickly find buttons in a dark environment would be very useful. This may not be as much of a problem when I know without looking which button does what, but it seems to be a waste to have such nice accent lighting that will hardly ever get used on a portable device. I will never use the unit on AC power. The StroboFlib fits nicely in my gig bag but not with the AC adapter. Who wants to search for an outlet at a jam session to quickly check and adjust tuning? I wish the unit powered off when you closed the lid. I did turn on the automatic timer to power itself off after a few minutes but it seems logical (to me) to have the unit power off when the lid is closed. The manual is a little too basic and could be improved for the first time strobe tuner user. A more in depth explanation of the display and why the bars are there etc. would be nice. If you are always supposed to tune to the left most bar, why even have the other bars on the display? What purpose do they serve? Everything considered, I really like the tuner and it will become the only tuner I use to tune my instruments. I highly recommend the tuner for the musician on-the-go!

Hi Rein,

We've had positive feedback from Autoharpists after we recommended that they use the SC6 Sweetener in the StroboFlip, VS-II, V-SAM or StroboStomp2 tuners. Glad you're enjoying your StroboFlip! John N. |
