Peterson tuners feature unique Sweetener™ presets not found in any other brand of tuner. This comes from an almost 70-year legacy reaching back to the dawn of popular music as we know it today.
Decades of research and the experience of musicians the world over has led to the creation of the “Sweetener”, a system of preset tuning offsets designed for specific instruments, only available on Peterson tuners, and used worldwide wherever precise and professional results are expected.
Oud is a fretless instrument which is traditionally tuned to natural intervals. Tuning these intervals is not possible using standard Equal temperament, as the majority of tuners do.
The Peterson OUD Sweetener is preset to show the naturally consonant intervals as tuned on an oud while taking into account an average deflection. The concert pitch may vary depending on the source or style of the music played, as Arabic and Persian concert pitches differ. Each model of Peterson tuner has a wide adjustment range to allow for almost any variation.
For oud, use the OUD Sweetener™ preset, then tune to C-F-A-D-G-C for Arabic style tuning or C#-F#-B-E-A-D for Turkish style tuning.
The default global pitch reference is A=440 Hz. To match the local pitch reference, adjust the Concert pitch accordingly.
